Rebars / Reinforcing bars
One-man operation: TRUNINGER lifting magnet systems enable one-man handling of even extremely long rebar bundles or heavy coils. This results in drastically higher process speed and safety. Nobody needs to sling the load and nobody needs to be present in the material flow zone. Aisles in between stacks can be eliminated and significantly higher stock density be achieved.
Applications
TRUNINGER lifting magnet solutions are tailored to the respective purpose: Steel mills often have to handle multiple bundles or coils in parallel while steel processing companies rather focus on feeding single bundles or coils to the machines.

Handling of rebar bundles
One-man operation
Using a TRUNINGER magnet system, even extremely long rebar bundles can be managed in a one man operation. Provided magnet system and crane are correctly set up, you will benefit from efficient deployment of personnel and a safe workplace.

Rebar bundles up to 24m of length
TRUNINGER designs and builds special magnet systems for handling rebar bundles.
- The spreader beam’s narrow design simplifies picking of small bundles. Also, entering in between high narrow piles works fine.
- Lightweight honeycomb structures reduce dead weight of the long spreader beams which also reduces stress, wear and energy consumption on the crane side.
- The magnets’ suspensions have long free travel. This compensates for any unevenness in the rebar bundles or in the piles (see figure 2).
- TRUNINGER magnet controllers allow magnets to be activated individually. This helps a lot when rebar bundles are at an angle or bent. Magnets are positioned and activated one by one. By shifting the crane sideways, the load can be aligned to the spreader beam and lifted.

Transporting double and multiple bundles
Specially shaped pole shoes enable two rebar bundles to be carried in one lift, significantly increasing the speed of handling (see figure 1).
Multiple bundle handling can be achieved applying wide magnets oriented crosswise to the spreader beam (see figure 3). Size and number of rebar bundles (layer width) is defined by width of the magnets. Such high volume throughput solutions can often be seen in steel mills and logistic service centres.

Magnetic handling of rebar coils
Safe transport of rebar coils
Not only long rebar bundles, but also rebar coils of different dimensions, can be transported safely using a TRUNINGER magnet system. With a sound base, rebar coils can be stacked one on top of each other, weather the coil axe being horizontal or vertical. However, the coils must be rigid in shape, i.e. compactly wound and firmly strapped.
Using a magnet system limitations of stack height to man height are lifted of.

Versatile range of application
Steel mills
In steel mills, high throughput of large quantities must be managed. Several magnets in a customer specific arrangement makes it possible to transport multiple rebar coils in one lift.
Depending on the customer material flow, coils can be carried with their axes parallel or normal to the spreader beam (see figure 2). The magnet system is optimally tailored to the given production line and production volume.
Figure 2: Magnetic transport of coils in a steel mill
TRUNINGER heat resistant magnets are used (see “Load temperature > 120°C”) to transport rebar coils up to 450C° from the production line to the warehouse.
Logistic service centres
Logistic service centres do again apply specific material flows and equipment. Accordingly, TRUNINGER offers numerous solutions such as this mobile crane's magnet for unloading rebar coils from railway wagons (figure 3).

Steel distributors / Steel service centres
In contrast to the above, a single magnet to handle individual rebar coils is a particularly useful set up for steel distributors or steel service centres. Here, high stock density is a key factor of success (see figure 4).
Summary
- You can store significantly more material within the same area
- For same tonnage of stock, you can reduce storage area and use it for other purposes
- Considerable time savings due to shorter crane travel and high speed picking
