Handling scrap with LST magnets
Effective, safe and reliable
The latest generation of TRUNINGER scrap magnets has been designed specifically for low density scrap.
LST magnets (Light Scrap Torus) combine numerous advantages for rugged applications in steel mills and scrap yards.
- The ring-shaped (torus) magnet housings are made out of welded steel making the magnet abrasion and impact resistant. This in contrast to the common bell-shaped cast-iron housings available on the market.
- Optimized geometries and coils result in significantly wider and stronger magnetic fields
- The magnetic conductivity of steel is around 30% better than that of cast-iron.
All this makes the magnets extremely durable and efficient both in terms of lifting capacity (kg lifting capacity/kg dead weight) as well as power consumption (kg lifting capacity/kW power consumption).
A base plate made of hardened steel protects the coils and prevents any foreign bodies from entering the coil cavity. This guarantees greatest ruggedness for tough conditions. Non-magnetic fins welded onto the sides of the magnet housing reduce the magnet’s lateral forces.
The coils are cast in impact-absorbent insulating compound having excellent moisture-repellent and heat conducting properties.

Magnets 700-2,000 mm of width are equipped with single coils; larger magnets of 1,800-3,600 mm width featur two coils. Depending on the requirements, these can be supplied with one or two electric circuits (redundant).
