Increase storage capacities.

thyssenkrupp Schulte is the leading materials service provider for steel, stainless steel, and nonferrous metals. With 40 sites throughout Germany, the long-established company with a history of more than 125 years sees itself as a holistic partner for innovative supply chain solutions and reliable material supply. It has been working with TRUNINGER for more than 20 years and relies on solutions "made in Langendorf" for handling and picking plates and sheets.

Focus: "Sheets"

At its Fellbach location, sheets represent a core product. Because quality losses like dents or other surface damages can mainly be caused by mechanical lifting devices, thyssenkrupp Schulte makes use of magnet lifting systems. Load-stabilised cranes minimize the pendulum movements and thus permit faster and more precise handling of the plates. Thanks to the large-area lifting force distribution of the magnets, the sensitive sheets are lifted, moved and set down precisely without any marks or damages.

Intelligent magnet control reduces costs

In addition to TRUNINGER’s compact, flexible and safe magnet systems, thyssenkrupp Schulte can also rely on the intelligent "SmartPickTM" controller technology for picking the sheets. Thin sheets can be picked in selectable quantities, fast and precise. This allows to move more sheets per unit of time.

For the materials trader the more efficient use of its storage space is also a significant advantage: "The new magnet lifting system from TRUNINGER enables us to achieve a 30% higher storage density and thus a better space optimization," says a satisfied Jörg Zweigle, plant manager at thyssenkrupp Schulte's Fellbach location. "In addition, the system is safer and less subject to wear than mechanical systems, both of which significantly reduce operating costs over the entire life cycle."
In terms of space optimization, the company, which is present all over Germany, benefits from the fact that the sheets are picked from above: Spaces between the sheets due to wooden spacers are a thing of the past. It was also possible to reduce the distances between the individual storage positions. So the bottom line is that more products can be accommodated in the same area.

Safety built in

For the operators, SmartPickTM means quick and precise control of magnetic force, making it even easier to separate sheets. The system also features an EventLog, which allows operator errors to be evaluated retrospectively. This serves as a blueprint for optimization and helps the operating team to become better and better. After all, operating the line is just like building it: experience makes perfect.
